Selena Gomez Reportedly Loses 700,000 Instagram Followers Over A Now-Deleted Post

Selena Gomez has faced backlash after sharing a social media post about Donald Trump’s new executive orders, causing her to lose more than 700,000 followers on Instagram.

The 47th president, having taken office only weeks ago, has already signed several controversial orders, including changes to immigration laws and renaming the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America. Gomez, who often speaks out on social issues, was visibly upset about these decisions and posted a video of herself crying.

In the video, Gomez expressed her concern about the impact of Trump’s order on millions of undocumented immigrants. With tears in her eyes, she said, “I’m so sorry. All my people are getting attacked. The children, I don’t understand. I wish I could do something but I can’t. I don’t know what to do. I’ll try everything, I promise.”

After sharing the video, she deleted it but followed up with a message saying, “Apparently it’s not okay to show empathy for people.” This post sparked a lot of reaction, and her Instagram followers dropped significantly.

According to reports, Gomez has lost around 808,500 followers in just one month. Experts at CritiqueJeu, who track social media activity of celebrities, noted that the beginning of 2025 has not been kind to Gomez.

Meanwhile, Trump’s new policies are being carried out aggressively, with former ICE director Tom Homan leading the crackdown on immigration. The president has promised the largest deportation operation in US history, claiming up to 20 million undocumented immigrants could be removed.

Trump has signed a series of executive orders, including tougher restrictions on immigration, with deportations starting soon. Some of these orders include expanding the role of federal agencies like the FBI and DEA in immigration enforcement, as well as a reversal of protections for sensitive locations such as schools and churches.
