Paul Skinner, 58, was out cycling with a friend when something caught his eye, making him stop suddenly.
Something was moving in a ditch.
As he got closer, he found a weak and exhausted cocker spaniel that had clearly been left behind.
The dog was holding a plastic bag in its mouth—when Paul saw what was inside, he felt a chill run down his spine.

A shocking discovery “I was cycling with my friend when we noticed what looked like a dead bird on the side of the road. But then it moved,” Paul told Metro.
The dog had been abandoned in Lincolnshire, England.
“She was sitting there, licking the inside of a fish and chips bag,” Paul said.
Seeing no owner around, Paul got off his bike and walked toward the dog. Then, he looked inside the bag she was holding.
Paul bent down and opened the bag.
Inside were four lifeless puppies.
“It was heartbreaking. She had tears in her eyes. I couldn’t believe someone could do something like this,” he said.
Calling for help Paul immediately contacted an animal rescue group and a local shelter.
Rescue volunteers arrived quickly and tried to save the puppies, but it was too late.
A veterinarian examined them and believed they were born that same day.
It appeared they may have been alive when they were placed in the bag and abandoned along with their mother.
Police later stated, “We don’t know if the puppies were stillborn or if they passed away due to the cold. We want to thank the cyclist who found the dog and raised the alarm, as well as Fen Bank Greyhound Sanctuary for getting her to the vets.”

A microchip was found on the mother dog but only led back to the original breeder.
A second chance The dog, later named Carly, was taken in by a shelter and will never be mistreated again.
Her loyalty to her puppies, even after they were gone, showed just how deeply animals can feel. Carly refused to leave them behind, proving that a mother’s love knows no limits.
