If you’ve ever worried about getting your leg stuck in an airport travelator, this story might make you even more cautious.
A 57-year-old woman lost her leg after a serious accident at Bangkok’s Don Mueang Airport. She was walking on the moving walkway when she tripped over her suitcase and fell into a gap at the end of the walkway. Before she could react, her leg got trapped in the machinery.

Airport staff and emergency medical teams rushed to help. They tried to free her leg, but the damage was severe. Her bones and tendons were badly injured, and the only option was to amputate her leg above the knee.
Photos from the scene showed her sitting on the travelator, unable to move. After the emergency surgery, her severed leg was placed in a foam box in the hopes that doctors could reattach it. However, when she was taken to Bhumibol Adulyadej Hospital, doctors told her that saving the leg was impossible.
Her son later shared his feelings online, saying their family was deeply affected. He said his mother was trying to stay strong, but losing her leg so suddenly was overwhelming. They knew that her life would never be the same, but they were doing everything they could to support her.

The airport director expressed deep regret over the incident and promised that safety improvements would be made to prevent similar accidents. The airport also covered all medical expenses and provided compensation to the woman.
Months later, she took her first steps with her prosthetic leg. Her son shared the emotional moment, saying she walked for 15 minutes and was practicing every day. He said that despite everything, she remained strong and determined.

He also added that she still looked as beautiful as ever and that he believed one day she might even run faster than him.
