The internet can sometimes humble you quickly, especially when you ask questions to strangers. If you post something online, people feel like they can leave any comment they want, no matter how harsh it might be.
A woman recently posed a simple question to the internet: “How old do I look?” What she thought would be a fun curiosity turned into a surprising experience.
Emily Jane posted a TikTok video where she showed her natural face, without makeup or filters, and asked viewers to guess her age. She was stunned by the responses. Some people thought she looked in her forties, while others thought she was in her fifties or even sixties!
“I’m 56, my guess is that you are close to 47,” one commenter wrote. Another guessed, “I’m 42. I’d guess you’re around 51.” The most shocking guess? Someone thought Emily was 58.
In a follow-up video, Emily questioned, “Do I genuinely look like I’m nearly 60? Like, nearly at retirement age?” But there were also guesses that placed her in her twenties and thirties. The range of guesses was all over the place.
So, how old was Emily, really? She revealed, “I turned 36 last week, so only just 36.” She explained that people often think she looks older because she stopped dying her naturally grey hair. “I’ve had grey hair for quite some time now,” she said. She also pointed out that her sleepless nights due to having a newborn baby might have added to her tired look.
Emily said her age guesses showed how social media and filters have changed how people view real-life appearances. “What you see on social media is not real,” she added.
Some people disagreed with her, saying it was just the grey hair that made her look older. But Emily’s point remained clear—natural beauty and age should be accepted as they are.
