A Spanish actress made headlines a while ago after making an unusual decision involving her late son’s sperm.
Ana Obregón lost her son, Aless Lequio, to cancer in 2022. Before he passed, he had expressed a wish to have a child one day. In 2023, Ana helped fulfill that wish through surrogacy.

A baby girl named Anita was born using her son’s sperm and a surrogate. Later, Ana explained that Anita is not her daughter but her granddaughter.
“She is Aless’ daughter,” Ana told ¡Hola! magazine in April 2023. “When she grows up, I’ll tell her who her father was so she knows where she comes from.”
Ana recently appeared on Spanish TV and talked about her life with her granddaughter. She said her home is now filled with toys and stuffed animals.

“There’s even a small ball pool,” she shared. “She makes me jump in and play.”
While she enjoys time with Anita, Ana said some things are becoming harder with age—like picking the child up, which now causes back pain.
Ana also spoke about the shock of her son’s cancer diagnosis. “One day you’re told your 25-year-old has aggressive cancer,” she recalled. “It’s not something you expect in life.”
She added that she now feels more protective over Anita than she did with Aless.
Ana’s choice to use surrogacy sparked a lot of public attention. Surrogacy is not allowed in Spain, but it is legal to adopt a child born abroad. Anita was born in the US, and Ana adopted her there, becoming her legal guardian.

She has responded to critics in the past, saying the decision helped her through grief. Ana once said she felt “dead for three years” after her son passed.
In a recent interview with ¡Hola! for Anita’s second birthday, Ana said she still feels the loss deeply. “That kind of pain doesn’t go away,” she said. “But Anita now gives me a reason to live each day.”
