What we know so far about the death of 6-year-old Gracelyn Vick

Little Gracelyn Vick, a 6-year-old girl, disappeared on Sunday afternoon in Saucier, Mississippi.

Her family reported that Gracelyn had gone outside to play around noon but didn’t return. As time passed without any sign of her, her family contacted authorities. The Harrison County Sheriff’s Office launched a search that lasted six hours, with help from nearby law enforcement, Gulf Coast Search and Rescue, helicopters, drones, and local volunteers.

Sadly, Gracelyn’s body was found later that day near the family’s property. Deputies marked off a section of the property, which included a swing set and areas for livestock. Crime scene technicians worked through the evening, documenting the scene and collecting evidence.

At 8 p.m., Gracelyn’s body was taken from the property. On Monday, Harrison County Sheriff Matt Haley addressed rumors circulating online about the case. He confirmed that no arrests had been made and emphasized that it was too early to say whether foul play was involved. “This is an ongoing investigation,” Haley stated. An autopsy was scheduled for Monday at the state crime lab in Biloxi to determine the cause of Gracelyn’s death.

Since her tragic death, support for the family has been pouring in on social media. Grief counselors have been brought into Saucier Elementary to help students cope with the loss of their young classmate.

For Gracelyn’s mother, Vicky Lynn (Wedgeworth) Hutcherson, this is the third heartbreaking loss in recent years. In March 2024, Gracelyn’s 13-year-old stepsister, Victoria Hutcherson, died in a crash on U.S. 49. Last year, Gracelyn’s older brother, 18-year-old Larry Hart, passed away due to a medical condition.

Please keep the family and friends of Gracelyn Vick in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
