Winter was coming for a long time in Game of Thrones, but not everyone made it through. Most characters met their end, but what about the actors? Let’s see who thrived and who faced challenges after the show ended.
Sean Bean – Then
Sean Bean, born in Sheffield in 1959, gained fame playing Richard Sharpe on TV in the 1990s. He also starred as Alec Trevelyan in Goldeneye and as Boromir in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. Boromir’s heroic death made him unforgettable.

Sean’s time as Ned Stark on Game of Thrones was brief, ending in season one when Joffrey Baratheon had him beheaded. Since then, he’s acted in movies like The Martian and shows like Snowpiercer and Time, which earned him a British Academy Television Award.
Isaac Hempstead Wright – Then
Born in Surrey in 1999, Isaac started acting to avoid soccer on cold mornings. He got his big break at age 10, playing Bran Stark, a blind warg and Three-Eyed Raven with supernatural powers.
Isaac Hempstead Wright – Now
Fans were shocked when Bran became King of the Six Kingdoms. Isaac left university to focus on acting but later returned to study neuroscience. His most recent role was in 2021’s Voyagers.
Nathalie Emmanuel – Then
Born in Essex in 1989, Nathalie acted in theater as a child before landing a TV role in Hollyoaks. She joined Game of Thrones as Missandei, Daenerys Targaryen’s interpreter and advisor.
Nathalie Emmanuel – Now
Missandei’s death upset fans, but Nathalie’s career thrived. She appeared in the Fast & Furious series and Maze Runner. Recently, she starred in The Invitation and will feature in Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis.
Peter Dinklage – Then
Peter Dinklage, born in 1969, refused roles that typecast him by height. He became Tyrion Lannister, a witty strategist who overcame constant rejection from his family.
Peter Dinklage – Now
Peter acted in X-Men: Days of Future Past and Avengers: Infinity War. In 2023, he appeared in The Toxic Avenger reboot and the Hunger Games prequel.
Jack Gleeson – Then
Jack Gleeson, from Ireland, started acting young. He played King Joffrey Baratheon, one of the most hated villains in TV history, while studying philosophy and theology at university.
Jack Gleeson – Now
Jack stepped back from acting after Game of Thrones. He now leads a quieter life and occasionally appears in small theater productions.
