A transgender girl was brutally attacked at a roller skating party, where she was stabbed nine times. The attack was reportedly a response to her not revealing her gender identity before an intimate act with a boy, according to court details.
The 18-year-old, who dreamed of becoming a model, was lured to a roller disco. There, a group of masked teenagers attacked her, shouting offensive slurs like “tranny.” They punched, kicked, and stomped on her until she collapsed from multiple knife wounds inflicted by one of the teenagers.
This violent attack lasted only 45 seconds and was preplanned, even recorded for Snapchat. During the assault, Summer Betts-Ramsey, a 19-year-old, kicked the victim at least seven times before pulling out a knife.
As the victim lay helpless, Betts-Ramsey stabbed her 14 times in various parts of her body, including her nose, thigh, hand, and buttocks. The attack occurred on February 10 last year.
Other group members joined in, using roller skates and boots to hurt her. They stole her handbag and fled, leaving her in a pool of blood.
A passerby intervened, stopping Betts-Ramsey and calling an ambulance, which saved the victim’s life.
After the attack, Betts-Ramsey showed no remorse, boasting on Snapchat and telling friends, “I’m going jail… bro I stabbed her 12 times.” Others mocked the victim, sending messages like, “Ur looking sweet.”
Betts-Ramsey, now 20, will be sentenced alongside Bradley Harris, Camron Osei, Shiloh Hindes, and a 17-year-old boy. All have pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm with intent. Another 17-year-old girl admitted to robbery for taking the victim’s handbag.
The court heard that Harris planned the attack after discovering the victim was transgender. He had recorded an intimate act with her during a video call and was told about her gender identity by a friend.
When confronted, she admitted it after Harris threatened her with a knife. Despite her apology, Harris was already planning the attack.
Just hours before the assault, Betts-Ramsey was overheard saying she had to “beat up a f-ing tranny.” Known for her obsession with knives, she brought one of her blades to the attack.
Prosecutor Deena Heer described the attack as planned and motivated by the victim’s transgender identity. The victim was defenseless from the moment she arrived.
The victim shared the emotional impact of the attack, detailing panic attacks, sleepless nights, and fears for her future as a model. She said, “I am constantly in fear of being assaulted again.”
Betts-Ramsey was already under a community order for previous offenses when the attack occurred. The group will face sentencing for their roles in the attack.
