I have a 13-year-old son who has autism. He was excited to go to summer camp, looking forward to making friends and having fun. But some kids treated him unfairly.
They took his money and a wristband that allowed him to play paintball. They called him names and said things that were mean and untrue. They even said things about his family and friendships that no child should have to hear.
If you ever met my son, you would know that he is kind and caring. He does not treat anyone badly and only wants to have fun like everyone else.
Even though this happened, my son still enjoyed his time at camp. He focused on the good moments and did not let the bad ones take away from his experience.
It is hard to understand why some kids choose to act this way. But what stands out is my son’s strength and positive attitude. Instead of letting this ruin his time, he still found reasons to smile.
This shows how resilient he is. Even when faced with challenges, he does not let them stop him from enjoying life.
If more people took the time to get to know him, they would see how great he is. He is funny, smart, and full of kindness.
No child should have to deal with unkind behavior, but I am proud of my son for staying strong. He reminds me that even in tough situations, it is possible to find joy and focus on the good things.
