Son took his mother to a nursing home and only visited her from time to time

Do we ever stop and think about how our actions come back to us? Many times, we make decisions without fully considering how they affect others. But life has a way of reminding us to be more thoughtful.

After his father passed away, a man decided he could no longer take care of his mother. He made the choice to place her in a nursing home. She was unhappy there, and he rarely visited—only stopping by once in a while.

One day, he received a call. His mother’s health had worsened. She was very weak, and it seemed like she didn’t have much time left.

A Son’s Visit in His Mother’s Final Days

The son rushed to the nursing home. When he arrived at his mother’s room, he asked if there was anything he could do for her.

His mother looked into his eyes and said she had a few requests. Wanting to make her last moments comfortable, he told her he would do anything she asked.

She then told him that the ceiling fans didn’t work well, making it hard for her to breathe. She also asked if he could replace the refrigerator, as food often went bad, leaving her hungry on some nights.

A Painful Realization

Her words surprised him. He had never heard her complain before. Now, it was too late to fix these problems.

He asked why she hadn’t mentioned these things earlier.

She looked at him again and said, “I know I don’t have much time left. But I think about when your own children may not want you with them… and they might bring you here. I hope by then, the conditions will be better. What you give is what you get. Never forget that.”

Her words hit him hard. He realized he had made a mistake by leaving his mother in a place she didn’t want to be.

We should always remember that it’s our responsibility to ensure our parents spend their later years in comfort and happiness.
