Rescue takes in severely matted dog who looks like a wig

Many stray dogs suffer from neglect, and their fur often becomes matted and tangled, causing them discomfort. One such dog recently experienced a life-changing makeover that turned her life around.

Mac’s Mission, a nonprofit rescue in Missouri, saved a stray dog found in the middle of the road. The dog, named Pear, was in a dreadful state. Her thick, matted fur covered her entire body, and she barely resembled a dog. The rescue described her appearance as looking like “a wig” or “a wad of hair.”

Once Pear was brought to the rescue, volunteers began the process of cleaning her up. She received a full spa session, including shaving off her dirty fur, a bath, and treatment for fleas. The process was lengthy, but Pear remained calm and patient throughout.

“She just sat there sweetly while we worked to remove the thick mats,” said Rochelle Steffen, founder of Mac’s Mission.

Pear’s condition was severe, but she was fortunate in some ways. Despite her matted fur, she didn’t have maggots, and she avoided being hit by a car. However, Pear is missing one eye due to an old injury.

Mac’s Mission shared before and after photos of Pear’s makeover. The difference is astonishing. Pear now looks healthy and happy, ready for a fresh start in life.

The rescue thanked their supporters, saying, “Pear has a new life ahead of her thanks to you all.”

Pear’s story highlights the incredible work done by rescues like Mac’s Mission. Her transformation is not just physical—it’s the start of a better, happier life.

Thank you to everyone who played a part in Pear’s journey! Her story is a reminder of the importance of rescuing and caring for neglected animals.
