The passing of Pope Francis has left people all around the world in shock. The Vatican confirmed the sad news on Easter Monday, as the world woke up to learn of his untimely death.
Many people had gathered in Rome for Easter, with hundreds of thousands visiting the Vatican. Just the day before, Pope Francis had made his last public appearance.

The Pope’s final appearance on Easter Sunday was brief but meaningful. Due to recent health issues, including a battle with double pneumonia, the Pope was unable to lead the Mass himself. Instead, Cardinal Angelo Comastri took over the ceremony, while the Pope, who was in a wheelchair, appeared on the balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica. There, he blessed the crowd and wished everyone a “Happy Easter.”
Traditionally, the Pope also delivers the “Urbi et Orbi” message on Easter, but this year it was done by a Vatican archbishop, as the Pope’s health had declined. His message focused on critical global issues, including the ongoing conflict in Gaza. He urged for a ceasefire and spoke of the rising antisemitism in many parts of the world.

In his final address, the Pope emphasized that peace cannot be achieved without freedom of religion, thought, and respect for others’ beliefs. Afterward, he was driven through the crowd in an open-top vehicle.
Pope Francis passed away at the age of eighty-eight after battling health problems for some time. He had been in and out of the hospital, spending a month in the Gemelli Hospital in Rome. Even after being discharged, doctors advised him to rest and recover.
Because of his health issues, Pope Francis missed many of the Holy Week ceremonies this year, including some traditional events he had usually led. Despite these challenges, he made a brief appearance to welcome visitors on Saturday.

Pope Francis leaves behind a significant and lasting legacy as a man of faith and honesty. His memory will continue to inspire many for years to come.
