An influencer sparked debate online after sharing a TikTok video where she claimed she was “too pretty” to work a regular job.
Many people were upset, calling her “shallow” and “entitled.” They criticized the idea that working was only for people who weren’t attractive.

Lucy Welcher, a social media influencer with nearly 20 million likes, posted a short clip that quickly went viral. The 20-year-old, often seen in videos sipping iced coffee or showing off shopping hauls, stirred strong reactions with her statement.
On November 8, 2022, she uploaded a TikTok video with the caption, “Not my thing [laughing emoji] #working #scam.” In the nine-second clip, she said, “I do not want to work for the rest of my life. Does it look like I want to get up at 6 a.m. every day for the next 60 years? No! I’m too pretty for that!”
Viewers quickly reacted, many calling her “lazy” and “entitled.” One person commented, “I wish I had your confidence, the same confidence to feel like I’m better looking than I actually am.” Another wrote, “Looks have nothing to do with working, and it’s sad you think that way.” Others said she was acting like a “privileged princess” expecting everything to be easy.
After facing backlash, Welcher deleted the video and explained in a new post that she was being “slandered all over social media.” She insisted the video was meant as a joke and that people had taken it too seriously.
In the follow-up video, she sarcastically responded to rumors, saying she doesn’t drive luxury cars or earn a six-figure salary. She also mentioned that she is Canadian and found it funny that people thought she lived in a mansion.
A few days later, on November 14, she reposted a “remake” of the deleted video. This time, many viewers found it funny and understood it was meant as humor.
One person commented, “You’re 100% right. Waking up early for work does ruin your looks.” Another wrote, “This video and the first one gave me life.” Some even agreed, saying, “You are too pretty for that. It’s just a fact.”
