Traveling to Mexico was a dream come true for me, my husband, and our two children. I imagined us having an unforgettable time together. But when we arrived, my husband’s actions made me question everything. He refused to take pictures with me, and what I discovered later broke my heart.
I was so excited for this trip. A few days before, I found out I had inherited money and property from my uncle. I planned to share the news with my husband, Luke, during the vacation.
However, his strange behavior started as soon as we arrived.
Whenever I asked Luke to take a photo of me, he would respond with, “Not now, Hannah,” or, “Maybe later, I’m not in the mood.” His excuses didn’t make sense—taking a picture takes only seconds, but he wasn’t willing to do it.
This went on for days, and it made me feel uneasy. Then one day, he left his phone on the bed while taking a shower. I didn’t want to invade his privacy, but I couldn’t ignore my doubts any longer.
When I looked through his phone, I found a message in his group chat with friends. He had written, “Imagine, guys, at her weight, she still wants me to take pictures of her. Where would she even fit in the picture? She hasn’t been the same since giving birth.”
Reading those words crushed me. I couldn’t believe Luke would say something so hurtful about me.
Without thinking, I took a photo of myself and posted it online with the caption, “Am I so unattractive that even my husband won’t take a picture of me?” The post quickly gained support, with many people sending kind messages.
When Luke saw it, he acted clueless, but I reminded him of his messages. I also told him, “I inherited my uncle’s property, and I’m moving with the kids. I’m done with you.”
Luke tried to apologize, but I knew it was only because of the money. I packed our things, took my children, and left. I don’t know what lies ahead, but I know I deserve better.
