My Husband Had A Vasectomy At 34 So We Can Live A Childfree Life! What’s Wrong With That?

Indi, 25, and her husband Heraldo Uribe, 34, have decided to live a child-free life so they can focus on themselves.

The couple, who live in Sydney, enjoy their flexibility—working out, traveling, having spontaneous dinners, and taking naps whenever they want.

Indi and Heraldo identify as DINKS (Dual Income, No Kids) and have always agreed that children aren’t in their future.

They believe kids are expensive and prefer a lifestyle that allows them to be spontaneous.

To make their decision permanent, Heraldo, a car salesman, had a vasectomy in June 2023—a choice Indi fully supported.

Indi, a makeup artist and business coach, said: “I’d rather be selfish without kids than have them and still want to be selfish. I like being able to take naps and go out whenever I want.”

She added, “We love our DINK lifestyle. It’s a bit selfish—but in the best way.”

Heraldo enjoys having time to focus on his career and marriage without added responsibilities.

He said, “The DINK lifestyle allows me to relive my childhood in a way and enjoy a low-stress life.”

The couple met in 2018 when Indi worked at a bank, and Heraldo had moved to Australia to learn English.

He previously served in the Chilean army but took a break and worked as a cleaner while studying the language.

During lunch breaks, they used Google Translate to communicate while Indi helped him improve his English.

Indi said: “We talked about kids early in our relationship, so we knew we were on the same page.”

Heraldo, the eldest of four, spent much of his childhood taking care of his siblings.

He explained, “As an adult, I finally get to make my own choice and live without the responsibilities I had as a child.”

Their daily routine is relaxed—they sleep in, go to the gym, work, then spend their evenings walking their dogs and having dinner.

On weekends, they sometimes work together before taking an afternoon nap.

They also make sure to travel at least once a year, enjoying the freedom to take trips whenever they want.

Indi said, “We love being spontaneous. Kids don’t fit into our lifestyle.”
