Mom Demands Babysitter Pay $300 Compensation For ‘Emotional Damage’ After Feeding Vegetarian Kids Chicken Nuggets

Parents often rely on babysitters when they need time away or a break. While finding a trustworthy sitter can be tough, it’s usually not too difficult. However, even after finding someone reliable, you still need to explain your family’s rules and preferences because every family is different.

One sitter, known as OP on Reddit, ran into a problem with a family she was babysitting for. OP, a 19-year-old with two years of babysitting experience, had recently agreed to watch a 9-year-old boy and a 7-year-old girl. She described the kids as well-behaved, which made the job easier.

To reward their good behavior, OP decided to buy the children chicken nugget Happy Meals, a treat that many parents and sitters use to keep things fun. The kids were excited, but things took a turn when their mother returned home early.

The mom was furious when she saw her children eating chicken nuggets. She immediately took the food from their hands and began shouting at OP, accusing her of allowing the kids to eat meat, which went against their vegetarian diet. OP had no idea the kids were vegetarians, as the mom had never mentioned it. Had she known, OP would have respected their dietary preferences.

The situation got worse when the mom kicked OP out without paying. She later sent a text demanding that OP pay her $600 for “emotional damage” caused to the kids. The mom even threatened to take OP to court over it.

OP, however, wasn’t afraid of the threat because her father and brother are both lawyers. She refused to pay, pointing out that it was the mom’s responsibility to inform her about the children’s dietary restrictions. OP then posted on Reddit to ask if she was in the wrong.

Most commenters agreed that the mom was at fault. They said it was her responsibility to inform OP about the children’s vegetarianism. The general consensus was that the mom should pay OP for her time, as she did the job as asked.
