Amber Luke, an Australian model, believes her tattoos are making it hard for her to find a job. The Queensland native has nearly her entire body covered in tattoos and body modifications, a journey that has cost her about $250,000. Known as ‘Dragon Girl,’ Amber has received a lot of media attention but still struggles to gain employment in a country known for being progressive.
Amber shared on a Brisbane radio show that her appearance limits her job options. “I won’t sugarcoat it; it has limited my employment options,” she said. “But I don’t want to work for a company that can’t see past my image. They won’t look at my work ethic, morals, or values.”
Amber has faced harsh comments from people. “Everyone has their opinions on beauty. Some cultures stretch their necks or ears. But it’s tough when someone publicly says, ‘You’re ugly’ or ‘You’ve ruined yourself.’ It’s distressing that people can voice such opinions without any consequences,” she added.
Despite the criticism, Amber feels her tattoos have not harmed anyone. Although some fans have asked her to stop getting inked, she feels proud of her transformation and resilience. The journey hasn’t been without pain. When she tattooed her eyeballs, she experienced complications, including crying blue tears. Amber admitted, “It turned me off from body modifications for a bit, but I’ve still had breast implants and other enhancements since then.”
Amber shared on Instagram about her difficult past, posting a picture from when she was 18. She wrote, “I was deeply depressed and suicidal. Now, I’ve transformed into someone I’m proud of. I’m strong and know who I am.”
She also revealed the painful process of tattooing her eyeballs. “When the ink went into my eyes, it felt like glass shards were rubbing in them. I was blind for three weeks because the artist went too deep. If done correctly, you shouldn’t go blind.”
One of her favorite modifications is her teeth, which she believes complement her dragon eyes. She spent $1,000 AUD on sharpening her fangs and $5,000 AUD on a VVS white gold tooth.
Amber’s journey highlights her commitment to self-expression, despite the challenges it brings.
