Kelly Clarkson ‘not above spanking’ her kids if they misbehave

Were you ever spanked as a child? The topic of spanking as a way to discipline kids has sparked debate for years. The American Academy of Pediatrics says it’s not effective and can be harmful, but some parents still believe in it. One of them is singer Kelly Clarkson.

Back in 2019, Kelly openly talked about spanking her kids during a radio interview.

The singer, who has two children, River Rose (8) and Remy (6), said she isn’t against spanking when needed. “I’m not above spanking,” she shared. “I don’t mean hitting hard, just a little spanking.”

She explained that she grew up with it and doesn’t see a problem with the method.

“My parents spanked me, and I turned out fine,” Kelly, who was raised in Texas, said.

“In the South, we get spankings,” she added. “My mom even gave the principal permission to spank me if I misbehaved. I think I turned out to be a well-rounded person with good character.”

Kelly has built a successful career as a singer, songwriter, author, and TV personality. She even received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for her achievements.

She admitted that some people disagree with her parenting style, especially in public places.

“It’s tricky when you’re outside because people judge you,” she explained. “Some think it’s wrong, but I don’t see anything bad about it.”

She even joked about it, saying, “You might see me spanking my kid at the zoo.”

However, she does not spank without warning. “I always tell them first,” Kelly said. “I say, ‘If you don’t stop right now, I’m going to spank you.’ Honestly, it has worked. They don’t misbehave as much anymore.”

Her views may be controversial, but Kelly stands by her approach. For her, it’s just a method that worked for her growing up, and she believes it helps in her parenting today.
