Kat Timpf on battling trolls, embracing pregnancy and writing a book about being written off for her views

Kat Timpf is known for her humor and strong opinions. She’s a commentator, comedian, podcaster, and author. Whether on stage or Fox News’ Gutfeld!, she keeps things light while discussing serious topics.

Timpf grew up in Detroit and later moved to Los Angeles to start her comedy career. She graduated magna cum laude from Hillsdale College and has balanced comedy with her role in political commentary. She recently announced her first pregnancy and released her second book, I Used to Like You Until… (How Binary Thinking Divides Us) on Sept. 10.

On Sept. 14, she will perform at the Scherr Forum Theatre in Thousand Oaks as part of her I Used to Like You Tour. The show will feature her signature humor and new material.

Timpf has dealt with a lot of online criticism. She often has to explain that Fox News has a range of voices, and not everyone agrees on everything. “People assume I have to pick a side, but I have my own views,” she says. “It would be easier to stick with one side, but that’s not who I am.”

Since announcing her pregnancy, she has received mixed reactions. For years, people criticized her for not having kids. Now, they tell her to stop talking about it. “Some of these comments come from the same people,” she says. “I know I’m not the first person to be pregnant, but it’s my first time! Let me enjoy it.”

Social media reactions can be harsh, but Timpf chooses to focus on the positive. “I never see someone celebrating their success and think, ‘No thanks.’ If you’re happy about something, that’s great!”

In her new book, she talks about dealing with negativity. The cover features her surrounded by hate messages to show her vulnerability. “When I’ve messaged people about their mean comments, most apologize. Some don’t, but that’s life.”

Looking back, she remembers struggling in L.A. She worked odd jobs and lived in a small apartment. Now, she’s selling out shows in the same city. “It’s overwhelming, but I’m grateful. I hope I always appreciate how far I’ve come.”
