High School Alum Recalls Taylor Swift Facing ‘Hatred’ From Classmates

It’s surprising to think that Taylor Swift wasn’t always the favorite in high school. Turns out her ability to “Shake it Off” started early in life!

A TikToker, Jessica McLane, recently shared on social media that she attended the same high school as Taylor Swift and claimed there was some serious tension between the future superstar and her classmates.

McLane described Taylor’s high school experience at Hendersonville High School in Tennessee, and it wasn’t the fairy tale you might imagine. According to her, there were students who genuinely “hated” Taylor during those years, especially as her success began to grow.

Jessica explained in her TikTok video that she didn’t know much about Taylor back then because she wasn’t a fan at the time. She said: “I was a church kid; I didn’t really listen to Taylor Swift. I’ve only recently started getting into her music.”

McLane recalled being a freshman in 2006, when Taylor was already gaining fame with her song “Teardrops On My Guitar.” That year, Taylor left school to be homeschooled as her music career took off.

“She was only 16 or 17 when she left school to pursue her dreams,” McLane said. “At the same time, her classmates—especially the boys she wrote songs about—were still in school, hearing those hit songs that called them out as bad boyfriends.”

Jessica added that most students didn’t have nice things to say about Taylor. “These weren’t random internet trolls,” she explained. “These were her peers.”

Despite the negativity, Taylor didn’t let it stop her. In 2009, she made a bold move by inviting her former classmates to the CMA Awards. McLane described it as Taylor’s way of saying, “Fk you,”** and admitted they deserved it.

“Touché, Taylor,” McLane said.

Swift’s fans, known as Swifties, flooded the TikTok comments in support. One fan said, “Sagittarius energy—we forgive, but we never forget.” Another added, “Taylor has the last laugh!”
