Cats and dogs are often thought to be enemies, with sayings like “fighting like cats and dogs” reinforcing this idea. But many pet owners know that these animals can actually become the best of friends.

And sometimes, they’ll even risk their lives to protect each other. This was the case recently when a cat saved her dog sister from two attacking coyotes.
Lane Dyer, from Edmond, Oklahoma, owns two pets: a 6-year-old Havanese dog named Oakley and a black cat named Binx, who showed up as a stray when she was just two months old, according to KFOR.
Dyer described the two as “polar opposites,” but despite their differences, they shared a strong bond, a bond that was proven when Oakley was attacked by coyotes.
On November 30, Oakley was let outside to use the bathroom when a coyote suddenly appeared and attacked her. The dog was overpowered, and just when things seemed hopeless, a second coyote showed up. But Binx wasn’t about to let that happen.

The cat charged at the coyotes, scaring them off and making them retreat.
In the aftermath, Oakley was injured and bleeding from her chest and side. The Dyers quickly rushed Oakley to the vet. Initially, the doctors thought they might need to amputate her leg, but luckily, the limb was saved.
Once Oakley started recovering, the Dyers reviewed their security footage and were stunned to see Binx’s bravery in action. Lane Dyer described it as “the craziest thing ever” and shared how proud he was of the cat for saving Oakley.
“I was kind of inspired by it,” Dyer said. “To see just our little outdoor cat jump at two coyotes attacking her dog and run them off was inspiring.”
