Adrien Brody had a big night at the 97th Academy Awards, winning his second Oscar and sharing a surprising moment with Halle Berry.
The 51-year-old actor became part of an exclusive group—winning an Oscar for both of his nominations. He was honored for his role in Brady Corbet’s “The Brutalist,” making him the first male actor to win twice on his first two tries.
With emotions running high, 58-year-old Berry walked up to Brody on the red carpet and kissed him, recreating the moment from 22 years ago when he unexpectedly kissed her after winning his first Oscar. But this time, his girlfriend, Georgina Chapman, was right there.
People on social media had strong reactions.
“I wonder how their partners feel about this. It’s giving cringe,” one person wrote. Another added, “Doing this in front of his girlfriend is wild.”
Some questioned whether the moment was appropriate. “That’s just weird. It’s not about acting—it’s just disrespectful,” one comment read. Another pointed out, “Imagine if he did that to her in front of her spouse.”
However, not everyone saw it as a problem. Some noticed that Chapman clapped after the kiss. “She applauded. Do you not see her in the video?” one person asked.

They aren’t married, but they both have long-term partners. Berry recently said she “manifested” her boyfriend Van Hunt, whom she has been with for four years.
Speaking to Variety at the event, Berry explained why she kissed Brody.
“That night was a huge moment for both of us,” she said. “I’ve seen him at events, but this is the first time we’ve been on a red carpet together since then. I felt like I had to pay him back.”
