A flight attendant was recently fired after a video of her dancing and twerking on the job went viral online. According to the New York Post, Nelle Diala, who worked for Alaska Airlines for over six months, lost her job after sharing a TikTok video of herself twerking while in uniform.
The video, which gained attention quickly, was captioned, “ghetto bih till I D-I-E, don’t let the uniform fool you.” After being fired, Diala reposted the video with a new caption: “Can’t even be yourself anymore, without the world being so sensitive. What’s wrong with a little tw£rk before work, people act like they never did that before.” She also added the hashtag #discriminationisreal to express her frustration.
Following her termination, Diala started a GoFundMe page to seek financial support. She explained on the page that the video was made during a layover when she had two hours to wait for the pilots. She described the clip as “lighthearted,” noting it was recorded at 6 a.m. to celebrate the end of her probation period.
Diala said the video went viral overnight, but instead of receiving positive responses, it led to significant criticism. “It was a poor decision on my behalf,” she admitted, “but I didn’t think it would cost me my dream job.”
According to Diala, she was accused of violating Alaska Airlines’ social media policy. She claimed she tried to explain that the video wasn’t meant to harm anyone or the company, but her explanation wasn’t accepted. “Without warning, they terminated me,” she said. “No discussion, no chance to defend myself, and no proper investigation.”
The situation has sparked debates online about workplace policies and personal freedom. Diala maintains that her actions were harmless and did not deserve such a harsh consequence. She continues to share her story, hoping for support as she deals with the aftermath of losing her job.
