A family in Australia recently discovered they weren’t the only ones living in their home.
They had suspected that a snake or two might be hiding somewhere, so they called Sunshine Coast Snake Catchers 24/7, a snake removal service, to check their roof space. What they found was more than just a couple of snakes.

There had been many.
The evidence was clear—snake skins. A lot of them.
“Our inspector brought down over 30 snake skins from the family’s roof space, and there were probably another 20 skins still up there,” the company shared.
This meant that snakes had been living in the roof for a long time, shedding their skin as they grew. The inspection didn’t confirm whether any snakes were still there, but the amount of shed skin showed they had been using the space as a hiding spot.

The parents’ reaction to the discovery wasn’t mentioned, but the kids in the family loved it, according to the snake catchers.
While having snakes in the roof might seem alarming, it turns out they may have actually been helpful.
Snakes shed their skin as they grow, and they grow because they eat. So, what were they feeding on? Likely rodents living in the roof.
According to Sunshine Coast Snake Catchers 24/7, this is something to be grateful for.
“Snakes are great to have in your roof as they eat all the rodents,” the company explained. “Who doesn’t love free pest control?”

Though unexpected, the family’s hidden housemates had been quietly keeping their home rodent-free. Whether or not they were still up there, one thing was clear—the roof had been a popular shelter for them for quite some time.
This surprising discovery is a reminder that sometimes, we might not be as alone as we think in our own homes.
