A woman in Brazil has been arrested on suspicion of poisoning Easter eggs and sending them to her ex-boyfriend’s new family, which allegedly caused the death of a seven-year-old boy.

Jordélia Pereira Barbosa, 35, is accused of buying chocolate eggs, spiking them with poison, and sending them to her former partner’s new girlfriend. Authorities believe she acted out of jealousy and a desire for revenge. The eggs were delivered to the new girlfriend, named Mirian Lira, on Wednesday.
Mirian shared the chocolate with her children. The eggs arrived by motorcycle courier, along with a note that read: “With love, to Mirian Lira. Happy Easter.” Shortly after eating the eggs, Mirian’s son, Luis Fernando Rocha Silva, became ill. He was rushed to the hospital but tragically passed away hours later.

Mirian, 32, is still in the hospital in critical condition, and her 13-year-old daughter, Evelyn Fernanda, is also in serious condition, requiring intubation. Authorities have sent samples of the chocolate for forensic testing to confirm if poisoning occurred.
Jordélia was arrested while traveling on an intercity bus to her hometown of Santa Inês. Police also released CCTV footage of her shopping for the chocolate eggs. In the footage, she can be seen wearing a black wig and dark sunglasses, trying to conceal her blonde hair.

The eggs were delivered with a note addressed to Mirian Lira. After the incident, police conducted an investigation, speaking with Barbosa’s ex-partner, who suggested that she might be involved. Police also found receipts confirming that Jordélia had purchased the eggs.

Jordélia’s actions have left the local community shocked. Her arrest was confirmed after police traced her whereabouts and arrested her on the bus. Investigations are ongoing as authorities work to determine how the chocolate was poisoned and if any other individuals may have been affected.
