Buddy was cruelly set on fire and strangled with an extension cord – but look at him today

The cruelty that some people inflict on dogs is hard to understand. Sadly, many dogs suffer from senseless violence. Buddy, a dog who was set on fire, is one of those unfortunate cases. His story, though, brings hope as he has been recovering with the help of caring veterinarians.

Buddy, who was described as friendly and harmless, was burned badly after being set on fire. This happened in April 2021, and he was found with an extension cord around his neck and his face severely burned. The person responsible was a child, but due to his age, he could not face charges.

Buddy was taken in by the Tunica Humane Society in Mississippi, and the Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine helped with his recovery. While the road to healing was long, Buddy’s progress has been encouraging.

“Buddy’s vital signs are good, but like any burn patient, this is just the beginning,” said Dr. Elizabeth Swanson, a veterinary surgeon. Buddy’s eyes, though damaged, were still intact, and his eyelid injuries would be treated. Medical staff were hopeful he could regain some vision.

Buddy’s recovery included multiple bandage changes, and his condition steadily improved. He kept a positive attitude through it all, and every day brought new progress. His skin grafts were successful, and the Humane Society shared on Facebook that Buddy’s appearance was improving.

After a few months, Buddy made a major milestone when his bandages were removed. He could see again for the first time in over three months. He responded to the sight of people and appeared to be aware of his surroundings.

Buddy’s behavior changed for the better as well. He became playful and joyful, enjoying games with a ball. However, he still faces challenges. His eyes need ongoing care, and he requires special treatment for the rest of his life due to the severity of his injuries.

Buddy’s recovery has been miraculous, thanks to the care he received and the kindness of those who helped him.
