Buddy’s story is both difficult and inspiring. After suffering severe burns and serious injuries, this dog fought to recover with the help of a dedicated veterinary team. His progress has been remarkable.
It’s upsetting how some animals suffer due to human actions. They cannot defend themselves, yet they often face harm. Buddy’s case was one of those heartbreaking incidents. In April 2021, the Tunica Humane Society in Mississippi shared his story.

Buddy was known as a friendly and playful dog, never a danger to anyone. But he was found in terrible condition—his face was severely burned, and an extension cord was tied tightly around his neck. Despite these injuries, he remained calm as he was rescued.
A child later admitted to causing the harm, but due to age restrictions, no legal action could be taken. Instead, the focus shifted to Buddy’s recovery. He was placed under the care of Mississippi State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine.

Burn injuries take time to heal, and Buddy’s recovery was expected to be long. His condition was closely monitored, and his bandages were changed regularly. Although his face was damaged, his eyesight seemed unaffected, which gave the veterinarians hope.
The team worked carefully to help Buddy heal. Over time, his skin grafts showed positive results, and his spirit remained strong. Despite his injuries, he continued to show signs of happiness and even started learning basic commands.
Months passed, and Buddy made steady progress. On August 7, an important milestone was reached—his eye bandages were removed without heavy sedation. For the first time in over three months, he could see again.

His caregivers noticed an immediate change. He became more energetic, playful, and confident. He was seen carrying his favorite ball around the hospital, clearly enjoying his improved condition.
Buddy still has medical needs, including sensitive skin care and protection from the sun. However, his journey proves that with patience and kindness, even the most difficult recoveries are possible. Thanks to his veterinary team, Buddy is now looking forward to a better life.
