Boyfriend And Girlfriend Decide To Turn Each Other Down For The Prom So They Can Each Take A Special Needs Student

When people look back on their lives, they hope to remember moments they are proud of. That’s exactly how Sydney and Logan Firkins feel about a decision they made in high school.

A few years ago, Sydney and Logan were high school sweethearts. Today, they are married, but there is one memory from their school days that stands out. It all happened during prom season in 2017.

Like most teenagers, they were excited about prom and had been looking forward to it for a long time. But as the day approached, they made an unexpected decision—they wouldn’t go to prom together. Instead, they chose to invite two students from their school’s Life Skills class.

Sydney was a peer facilitator in the class and had developed a close friendship with Noah, a student with special needs. From the moment she met him, she saw how kind and full of energy he was. “Noah is just so caring and fun-loving,” Sydney said. “He’s like my best friend.” She knew he would enjoy prom, and this was a great opportunity to make it happen.

After talking it over, she and Logan decided on a plan. Sydney would invite Noah, and Logan would ask another student in the class, Harley.

When Sydney asked Noah to prom, he was overjoyed. She made her request special by writing a message on a softball. Noah immediately said yes, thrilled to be going to the dance.

Logan also put thought into his invitation. He knew Harley loved pink roses, so he brought her a bouquet along with a message that said, “I’d be blooming happy if you said yes to prom.” Harley was touched by the gesture and happily accepted.

On prom night, the group had a great time. For Sydney and Logan, it was a moment they would always cherish. They didn’t just create a special night for Noah and Harley—they created a memory that would stay with them forever.
