Being a man was too much hard work, so I became a woman: Inside the transmaxxing trend where men swap gender to get ‘female’ benefits like cheaper car insurance, free meals and sex

Walking home alone at night feels unsafe. The pressure of time running out to start a family is overwhelming. The pay gap between men and women keeps growing.

Being a woman in 2025 can feel tough. Many are realizing that the idea of “having it all” isn’t as simple as it sounds. But online discussions often paint a different picture—one where being a woman is full of benefits, from lower car insurance to free meals. Some even believe life is easier once you find a “high-value” partner, meaning someone wealthy and attractive.

This belief has led some men to take extreme measures to experience these advantages themselves. A growing group of men who feel unsuccessful in dating or life are choosing to transition to women—this is called transmaxxing.

Transmaxxing is a movement where men, often those who previously struggled in dating, transition to female, hoping for a better life. The idea is outlined in the “Transmaxxing Manifesto,” written by an anonymous Swedish author named Vintologi. The manifesto argues that women’s looks give them more advantages, including financial benefits from men. It also claims that women have access to cleaner and more pleasant spaces.

By promoting these ideas, transmaxxing reinforces traditional gender roles, where men are expected to earn and provide while women are seen as having an easier life. The manifesto even states that some people “need to be subservient” and exist to please others, saying this is better than struggling alone.

A documentary, Transmaxxer Life Uncovered, featured a transmaxxer named Sammy, who shared that she struggled with confidence before transitioning. She admitted to benefiting from free meals and now has a stable relationship. She also joked about learning how to be a “stay-at-home wife.”

For some, transmaxxing is linked to the incel movement—a group of men who believe they struggle in dating due to factors beyond their control. Some claim transitioning has helped them find partners and improve their self-esteem.

The movement remains controversial. Many incels reject transmaxxing due to their own beliefs, and critics argue it oversimplifies the challenges women face. However, its followers believe it gives them a chance at a better life than struggling as “low-value” men.
