Kat Von D Speaks Out About Her Decision To Blackout Tattoos After Converting To Christianity

Last year, tattoo artist and TV personality Kat Von D surprised fans by announcing that she was covering many of her tattoos with solid black ink. She shared a video on Instagram in October, revealing the transformation. The video showed black ink covering her ribcage and back, and she mentioned that the process took nearly 40 hours of tattoo work.

In a recent interview with Inked Magazine, she explained why she made this decision. She also showcased the final result in a photoshoot. Kat admitted that she had been unhappy with many of her tattoos for years. Wanting a fresh start, she reached out to Hoode Philly, a well-known tattoo artist specializing in blackout tattoos.

At first, she only planned to black out one arm, but after seeing the results, she decided to cover more of her body. She explained that these tattoos represented a past that no longer fit who she is today. Some people, she noted, like to keep their tattoos as reminders of different times in their lives, but she found herself tired of constantly seeing them in the mirror.

Another reason she made this change was her appreciation for the aesthetic. She admitted that it might not be for everyone, but for her, it was satisfying to see a clean slate when she looked at her arms.

This transformation is part of a bigger personal shift for Kat. In 2023, she chose to get baptized into the Christian church, distancing herself from her past beliefs. Speaking on a podcast, she shared that she had spent years searching for meaning in the wrong places. She described things like spell work and nature worship as distractions and explained that she wanted to focus on her faith instead.

“For me, I just want Jesus,” she said, adding that she preferred to remove anything that took her attention away from that.
