Fans of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man are calling for a same-sex romance in the next movie.
Since Spider-Man: No Way Home was released in 2021, people have been waiting to see what happens next for Peter Parker. One big question has been about his love life, especially his relationship with MJ, played by Zendaya.
At the end of the last movie, Doctor Strange erased Peter from everyone’s memory, including MJ’s. Peter later saw her again but chose not to tell her the truth, leaving their relationship uncertain.
Now, reports suggest Spider-Man 4 might introduce a new romantic storyline, leading to fresh discussions online. Some fans see this as a chance for Peter to have a same-sex relationship.
The idea gained attention after a fan tweeted: “Give him a boyfriend,” which got over 200,000 likes. Another added: “The multiverse is open. Somewhere out there, Peter Parker has a boyfriend.”
Many social media users are excited about the possibility, with some suggesting a ‘queer awakening’ storyline for Peter.
This idea isn’t new. Andrew Garfield, who played Spider-Man in The Amazing Spider-Man movies, previously supported it.
In a 2013 interview, Garfield asked: “‘What if MJ is a dude?’ Why can’t Peter explore his sexuality?” Fans still talk about his comments today.
Referencing Garfield’s statement, one fan wrote: “Andrew tried to get his Peter a boyfriend, and that’s probably why he never finished his trilogy.”
Others have suggested a gender-swapped version of Gwen Stacy, calling the character “Glen Stacy.”
While there’s no confirmation that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man will have a same-sex romance, fans believe there’s no reason it couldn’t happen.
Marvel Comics has already introduced LGBTQ+ characters in the Spider-Verse, including Web-Weaver, a gay Spider-Man variant. Some wonder if Web-Weaver could appear in Spider-Man 4 as Peter’s love interest.
Despite rumors, Zendaya is expected to return as MJ. An industry insider, Daniel Richtman, reported that Peter’s story will shift after No Way Home, and a new love interest could be part of that.
Another insider, MTTSH, reassured fans by saying: “Zendaya is still in it, so relax.”
