Whoopi Goldberg has decided to leave Twitter after Elon Musk’s $44 billion takeover. She announced her decision on The View, saying the platform had become too chaotic.

She pointed out several reasons for leaving. Musk recently rehired some workers he had fired, suspended comedian Kathy Griffin for impersonating him, and introduced a paid verification system. These changes, she said, made Twitter feel like a “mess.”
“I’m leaving today because it’s just too much,” Whoopi explained. She was frustrated that certain accounts, which were previously blocked, were now back on the platform.
However, she hasn’t ruled out returning. “If things settle down and I feel comfortable, maybe I’ll come back. But for now, I’m done,” she said.
Her co-host, Sunny Hostin, shared similar concerns. She called Twitter a “hellscape” and admitted she no longer reads posts regularly. However, she acknowledged that the platform has played a role in spreading important social movements.

“You’ve got Elon Musk turning it into something it was never meant to be,” Hostin said. “He calls it a public square, but I don’t want to be a part of it. At the same time, I don’t want to miss out on valuable information.”
Since taking over Twitter, Musk has announced a paid version of Twitter Blue, costing $7.99 per month. This subscription would give users access to premium features, including the highly sought-after blue checkmark.
Originally, Musk planned to roll out the service nationwide on November 5. However, reports suggest that the launch has been delayed by four days. Internal sources told The New York Times that the company is still finalizing the verification process.

Another major change is Twitter’s mass layoffs. Musk confirmed that almost half of the company’s employees were let go due to a “massive drop in revenue.” He claimed that Twitter was losing more than $4 million per day.
However, some of these job cuts may have been mistakes. According to Bloomberg, Twitter is now reaching out to some former employees to rehire them. The report says that some workers were fired “by accident.”
Whoopi’s decision to leave highlights the concerns many have about Twitter’s future. As the platform undergoes big changes, some users are questioning whether they still want to be part of it.
