My boyfriend fell in love with my..

James and Sarah have been together since high school and have been a couple for nine years. Their relationship seemed typical as they grew up and went to college together. But things changed a year ago when Sarah’s gay best friend, Hunter, shared unexpected feelings.

The three were roommates when Hunter decided to open up. “We were packing, and he said, ‘I’ve got something to tell you guys: I have feelings for you both,’” Sarah recalled. James was shocked, asking, ‘Huh?’ But Sarah replied, ‘Same!’ without hesitation.

For Hunter, the situation was confusing because of his identity. “I knew I was gay, so I felt a little confused,” he explained. Sarah also struggled with her feelings for Hunter, doubting them at first because, as she put it, “I’m with James, and he’s gay.”

James had never been in a relationship with a man before, so it took him time to adjust. He learned to be affectionate and open, eventually realizing his attraction to Hunter. Now, James and Sarah both identify as bisexual, and James describes himself as bi-romantic.

Though the trio found happiness together, the change surprised their loved ones. “One of my friends thought it was an April Fools joke,” Sarah shared. “She was weirded out and asked if I was okay.” Her family also questioned the new dynamic, wondering if adding Hunter was her decision or James’s.

Despite the initial doubts, the throuple has been together for a year and is thriving. James admitted, “At first, we worried about how people would see us or what friends and family would think. But in the end, we’re just doing what makes us happy. If people want to judge, that’s their choice.”

The group has learned to focus on their relationship instead of outside opinions. For them, it’s about finding a balance and supporting each other, regardless of what anyone else thinks.
