Henry Winkler’s theory about an arsonist being behind the devastating LA wildfires has caught widespread attention.
As those affected by the fires grapple with their loss, they are looking for explanations and accountability. On January 8, 2025, Winkler, known for his role as The Fonz on “Happy Days,” posted on X, saying, “There is an ARSONIST here in LA. May you be beaten unrecognizable!!! The pain you have caused!!!” His post has since garnered over 2 million views.
The LAPD responded by stating that it was too early to determine the exact cause of the fires but confirmed an investigation was underway. While some dismissed Winkler’s statement as mere speculation, later footage seemed to support his claims.
A video showing individuals throwing flammable objects into a fire in Santa Monica went viral, surpassing Winkler’s post with over 6.5 million views. The clip showed people igniting fires in typically non-burning areas, leading to panic and outrage.
“Stay safe and report any suspicious activity,” urged one retweet. The sight of people intentionally starting fires during an already chaotic situation left many angry and disheartened.
“Disgusting. It feels like LA is under attack. Fires are everywhere. Stay safe!” someone wrote.
The wildfires have destroyed thousands of homes, businesses, and landmarks, with the death toll reaching 24.
Police have arrested a suspect in connection to the fires, though his identity has not been disclosed. Fox News reported that the arrest occurred around 4:30 p.m. Thursday, near Arcos Drive and Galendo Street. Local residents saw a man on a bike with a torch trying to ignite old Christmas trees and garbage. They managed to detain him until the police arrived.
Videos showing arsonists in action sparked outrage online, with many demanding immediate prosecution. “Arrest them all now,” one user wrote, comparing the situation to a “third-world country.”
Reactions on social media, coupled with the evidence, seem to validate Henry Winkler’s suspicion about arsonists playing a role in the fires.
