Jon Bon Jovi and Dorothea Hurley have been together since they were young, and they have worked through their struggles over the years. The couple grew up in the same town and met at Sayreville War Memorial High School. In a 2023 interview, Hurley shared that she always knew Jon (whose real name is John Bongiovi Jr.) would become a rockstar, and she was right.
While they were dating in the 1980s, Jon formed his band, Bon Jovi. In 1985, they briefly broke up while the band’s fame grew. But they got back together and secretly married in Las Vegas while Jon was on tour. “We had the No. 1 album and No. 1 single, and I turned to Dorothea and said, ‘Why don’t we go right now?’” Jon recalled in a 2010 interview. They married without telling anyone.
Despite their success, Jon has been honest about the challenge of balancing his marriage with his rockstar life. “It’s about never lying about having been a saint, but not being a fool enough to mess up the home life,” he said in a 2024 interview.
Jon also shared that Dorothea knew exactly what she was signing up for. “I’ve been in one of the biggest rock bands in the world for 25 years,” Jon said. “It’s not like Dorothea came in halfway through.” He also stated that he has never cheated and has no interest in that lifestyle.
Through tough times, Jon expressed his gratitude for Dorothea’s support. “Without her, I am not sure how I would have coped,” he admitted in 2016. He feels proud to have been with one wife and stayed committed throughout his career.
Jon acknowledged that, as a rockstar, he wasn’t always perfect. But he emphasized that he would never do anything to jeopardize his relationship with Dorothea. “She’s there when I fall, and I’m there for her,” he said.
In 2024, Jon reflected on their long marriage, explaining, “It’s just the mutual admiration society. You wake up excited to be with each other.”
