Influencer, 21, who does dares for money dies on Boxing Day after being ‘paid £700 to down an entire bottle of whisky’

A 21-year-old Thai influencer, Thankam Kanthee, known online as “Bank Leicester,” died after taking on a dare to drink an entire bottle of whisky. He was reportedly paid 30,000 Thai baht (around £700) to complete the challenge.

Kanthee, who often accepted risky dares for money, took on the challenge during a birthday party in Chanthaburi, eastern Thailand, on December 26. In the past, he had done similar stunts, such as drinking hand sanitiser and eating wasabi, to help support his family.

During the party, Kanthee drank a 350ml bottle of whisky. Witnesses said he vomited afterward, and partygoers were seen laughing as he completed the dare. However, things quickly took a tragic turn at around 3:40 a.m.

Kanthee became unconscious due to alcohol poisoning and was rushed to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. An investigation into his death is ongoing, but early reports indicate the large quantity of alcohol caused his condition.

Local police have charged a suspect, Ekkachart “Em” Meephrom, with negligence leading to death. This crime in Thailand can lead to up to 10 years in prison or a fine of 200,000 baht. Ekkachart reportedly admitted his role in the incident and is currently in custody.

The party was organized to celebrate Ekkachart’s mother’s birthday. Kanthee’s fans expressed their sorrow on his social media, leaving heartfelt messages.

One user wrote: “I feel sorry for you, brother. The person who let you drink alcohol must be guilty forever.” Another said, “Rest in peace, Bank. I hope justice is served, and someone helps your grandmother as you wanted.”

Another message read: “Thank you for making us laugh and smile. Rest in peace.”

The tragedy has sparked discussions about the dangers of online challenges and the pressures influencers face to take extreme risks for views and money. Police and medical experts are continuing their investigations into the incident.
