A simulation showing the tragic fate of a woman swallowed whole by a python has left people on social media shocked.
Back in 2018, 54-year-old Jahrah Tiba disappeared while tending her vegetable garden on Muna Island in Sulawesi, Indonesia. Locals searched for her, eventually finding her sandals, jacket, headscarf, and knife near a forest. Not far away, they spotted a massive 23-foot python with a noticeable bulge in its stomach.
The search team decided to kill the snake and cut it open. Inside, they found Jahrah’s body intact, confirming she had only recently been swallowed. Local police confirmed the discovery in a statement, saying the python was about 22 feet long and likely preyed on Jahrah. Sadly, she had already passed away before her remains were recovered.
While video footage of the incident circulated in 2018, a new simulation posted on Instagram by @ZackDFilms has brought the event back into the spotlight. The animation recreates how the horrifying event may have unfolded. Social media users were quick to react, with one saying, “This is why I avoid hiking; I’m terrified of snakes.” Another person commented, “I still think I could fight off a snake this size.”
But experts warn against underestimating pythons. These snakes use their strong bodies to constrict their prey, suffocating them before swallowing them whole. Studies show their grip can crush internal organs, and while they usually hunt smaller animals, they have attacked humans in rare cases.
Pythons kill by causing suffocation or even cardiac arrest within minutes. However, they do have limits to the size of prey they can swallow. In 2005, a Burmese python in Florida tried to eat an alligator, but the attempt ended in tragedy for both animals when the snake “burst” in the process. Their remains were found days later by rangers.
This terrifying incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of wild animals and why caution is always necessary.
