Katy Perry kissed the ground after completing a short trip to space, fulfilling a long-time dream of experiencing what it’s like to leave Earth.
The singer joined Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin mission and traveled 62 miles above the planet on the New Shepard rocket. The entire flight lasted around 11 minutes.
She became the first pop artist to go to space and was part of an all-female crew. When they landed, Jeff Bezos opened the capsule door, and Katy stepped out, bent down, and kissed the ground.
During the trip, Katy sang “What a Wonderful World” while floating in space. She also carried a daisy flower with her, as a symbol of her 4-year-old daughter, Daisy. She shares her daughter with actor Orlando Bloom.
She explained that she chose the flower because daisies are “strong,” “powerful,” and “resilient”—qualities she wants to pass on.
Before the flight, Katy said she felt both nervous and excited. She shared a message on Instagram saying, “I gotta sing in space,” showing her mix of emotions ahead of the launch.
She also mentioned in an interview that the mission wasn’t about promoting herself. “It’s about appreciating this beautiful Earth and thinking about how we should protect it,” she said.
However, her actions after landing brought mixed reactions online. Some users joked about the short trip and her kissing the ground.
One person wrote, “Even space didn’t want her.” Another commented, “Her songs are longer than the time she spent in space.”
Others were more supportive and said they would have done the same thing. “Katy kissing the ground would be me,” someone posted.
After returning safely, Katy said she was guided by something deeper during the trip. “This isn’t just about singing. It’s about making space for more women in the future,” she shared.
She added that she wants to write a song about her experience in space and hopes it sends a message of courage and strength.
