New York helicopter crash victims identified as tech boss, his wife, and their 3 children

A tragic helicopter crash in New York City has claimed six lives, including Siemens executive Agustin Escobar, his wife, and their three children. The helicopter, operated by New York Helicopters, took off from Lower Manhattan at 3 p.m. on Thursday but crashed into the Hudson River just 15 minutes later.

Witnesses described a horrifying scene as the helicopter spiraled downward out of control. One person said the helicopter seemed to “split in half” before crashing near Pier 40. Another witness heard what sounded like a “sonic boom” before seeing the aircraft lose its rotors and crash into the water upside down.

Four victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while two others were rushed to nearby hospitals, where they later died from their injuries. The passengers were identified as Agustin Escobar, a high-ranking Siemens executive, his wife Merce Camprubi Montal, and their three children, aged 4, 5, and 11. The family had just arrived in New York from Barcelona, and the trip was meant to celebrate one of the children’s birthdays.

Escobar had worked at Siemens for over 27 years, and his contributions were praised by colleagues. Before takeoff, the family was photographed by the tour company, smiling and enjoying the moment.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation. However, New York Helicopter owner Michael Roth revealed that the pilot had radioed in to report running low on fuel just minutes after takeoff. The helicopter was supposed to return within a few minutes, but it failed to make it back. Roth expressed devastation over the accident, saying the small company was deeply affected by the loss.

The crash has also drawn attention from public figures. President Donald Trump expressed his sorrow, offering condolences to the families of the victims.

The Coast Guard set up a safety zone in the Hudson River, and witnesses described the confusion and shock as emergency responders arrived. The incident serves as a painful reminder of how quickly things can go wrong. My thoughts are with the families during this incredibly difficult time.
