Authorities are waiting for autopsy results to better understand what caused Davi’s sudden death.
Police in Brazil are investigating the case of a 14-year-old boy who admitted to injecting an unusual substance into his body before his health quickly worsened.
Davi Nunes Moreira was taken to a hospital in Planalto, a city in Bahia, northeastern Brazil, after he started feeling very sick. He had trouble walking, felt nauseous, and began vomiting.

At first, when his father noticed he was limping and asked what happened, Davi said he got hurt while playing. But as his condition got worse, he revealed the truth.
As his health declined, Davi reportedly told his family and doctors that he had injected himself with something unusual.
According to reports, he had mixed the remains of a dead butterfly with water and injected it into his right leg. Police later found a syringe hidden under his pillow, confirming what he had said.

Because his condition was serious, doctors transferred him to the General Hospital of Vitória da Conquista, one of the largest cities in the area. Sadly, despite efforts to save him, Davi passed away on February 12. His funeral took place two days later.
Now, authorities are investigating whether his actions were influenced by an online trend.
One investigator mentioned that Davi might have been following a dangerous challenge circulating on the internet. However, before he died, Davi denied being part of any online challenge.
Despite this, he did not explain why he carried out the act.
The exact species of butterfly Davi used is still unknown. Investigators from the Civil Police in Vitória da Conquista are now waiting for full autopsy results to determine what led to his death.
A Civil Police spokesperson said, “The autopsy results will help clarify the cause of death. The investigation aims to clear up what happened.”
Experts believe toxins in certain butterfly species may have caused his sudden illness. Professor Marcelo Duarte, a zoology expert, explained that butterfly fluids have not been deeply studied for their effects on humans.
After Davi’s passing, many people online have shared concerns about the dangers of viral trends. One user wrote, “Some things you see online are shocking and dangerous.”
